About Karenable

Karenable offers straight-talk hotel reviews and distilled food finds for travelers and foodies, so you enjoy better stays and better meals.

My mother's mantra, “Good, better, best; never let it rest,” shaped how I travel and how I cook. After decades of international work, family adventures, and joyful returns to favorite cities, our kids started calling the places that met my standards “Karenable.” The name stuck.

The Karenable standard

A place earns the Karenable nod when it delivers:

  • Service that anticipates your needs
  • Attention to the details that matter: restful beds, smart lighting, quiet rooms, thoughtful storage
  • Location that fits your itinerary, not just a pin on the map
  • Atmosphere and ambiance you can feel, a genuine sense of place
  • Worth the price, the "wow equation" has to add up

How I review

  • I expect excellence in sleep quality, service consistency, and design that serves the guest.
  • I assess value within category (boutique gem to five-star icon).
  • I note what's magical and what missed the mark, in plain English.
  • I revisit and update checklists as places surprise or disappoint.
  • (Occasionally, you'll see my Karenable rating, yes, including the champagne emoji.)

Beyond hotels: food, distilled

I'm equally passionate about food, from home-chef kitchens to cookbooks, cooking shows, classes, and global cuisines. In the Food section, I do the heavy lifting and sift through the noise to bring you the best ideas and practical advice in one place.

Why I started Karenable

With a nudge from my husband, a supercar aficionado and author of SSOReport.com, I created Karenable.com to share seasoned, straightforward hotel perspectives. I later expanded into food. The goal is simple: give you what you won't find elsewhere. Clear standards, honest context, and useful information, so you can make excellent choices.
